Tennis Information

Tara Woods has lots of opportunities for you to play tennis.  From Beginner to Intermediate and Advanced, and even for those who just want to learn to play, there are plenty of opportunities available for you to get in the game.

Mixed Doubles
We have “Mixed Doubles” tennis on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 – 10:30 AM.  This is open to all levels of tennis players.  We all mix together – the Intermediate players and the Advanced players.  We have two courts reserved for Monday and Wednesday mornings.  All four courts are reserved on Saturday mornings as we usually have a very good turnout of players that day.  There is no need to sign up to play; just show up at the courts and you will be welcomed to join in.

Ladies Doubles

At this time (June 2021) I am not sure if this Ladies Doubles group is still active.
There is a “Ladies Doubles” group that plays on Mondays and Tuesdays
from 7:30 to 9:00 AM.  This is a fun, social group that really enjoys the camaraderie among the players.  Even though it is listed as “Ladies Doubles”, it is also open to beginner men.

Round Robins

We have a Tennis Round Robin scheduled four times during the season.  They are scheduled usually on the fourth Sunday of the month starting in November.  For 2021-2022, the dates for our Round Robins have not yet been set.  These Round Robins are a lot of fun so be sure to sign up to play so you don’t miss out on all the action.  Generally, the sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board by the tennis courts around the first of the month.

Tennis Association

A lot of things changed with our Tara Woods tennis because of COVID-19.  When we know when our Tennis Association Meetings will resume for 2021-2022, we will report that information here.
In conjunction with the Round Robins, we also have a Tennis
Association Meeting and Dinner in the evening.  All tennis players are encouraged to join the Tennis Association.  The first meeting would ordinarily be scheduled for November 28, 2021.  The dates for 2022 are not confirmed yet.  The dates will be posted here once they are confirmed.

League Tennis
A lot of things changed with our Tara Woods league tennis because of COVID-19.  We will update this information as soon as we know how the league season looks for 2021-2022.
We have one women’s team and three men’s teams at Tara Woods.  L
eague matches are played every week, with some matches at home while other matches are played at neighboring communities.  Each team’s schedule is posted on the bulletin board by the courts.  The men sometimes start their matches early, so you may want to be at the courts early if you don’t want to miss the start of the match.

Tuesday at 1:00 PM is when the Men’s White Team plays.
Thursday at 1:30 PM is when the two Men’s Blue Teams play.  Since there are two Blue Teams (with one team playing home and the other playing away), there is usually a home match every week.

Thursday morning is when the Women’s Team plays.  Their home games start at 10:00 AM.  The away games have various start times depending on the location.

Being a Spectator

If you want to see some great tennis action, you can always come out to the courts when the league matches are being played – either here in Tara Woods or at our neighboring communities.  Spectators are always welcome and very much appreciated, so come on out and cheer on your Tara Woods teams.

Court Time Scheduling

The teams’ practices and actual matches take up a fair amount of court time, but there are still plenty of times when the tennis courts are available for your use.  There is a Tennis Court Reservation Schedule posted on the bulletin board by the courts for anyone to sign up for court time.

Ball Machine

Tara Woods has a Tennis Ball Machine which is a great tool for anyone wanting to improve their style of play.  You can have lifetime access to the Ball Machine for a one-time fee of $25.00.

Tennis Lessons

Tennis lessons are available for beginners eager to learn the game or for those players who just want to improve their tennis skills.  Call Fred Puhlfuerst at 239-731-1552.
