Tennis Information
Tara Woods has a lot of opportunities for you to play tennis. From Beginner to Intermediate, and on to Advanced, and even for those who just want to learn to play the game, there are plenty of opportunities available for you to get in the game of tennis.
For more information regarding tennis opportunities, you can contact Tim Hoch at 239-306-2371 or Cliff Baugher at 856-628-1272.
Mixed Doubles
We have "Open Tennis" for men and women on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. (During the summer months of May, June, July, and August, the start time on Mondays and Wednesdays is moved to 8:00 AM.) This “Open Tennis” is available to all levels of tennis players. We all mix together – the Intermediate players and the Advanced players. All four courts are reserved on these three mornings, as we usually have a good turnout of players. There is no need to sign up to play; just show up at the courts and you will be welcomed to join in.
Round Robins
Our Round Robins are scheduled on the fourth Saturday of the month. The dates for this season's Round Robins are: November 28, 2026. There is no Round Robin scheduled in December. The 2027 dates are: January 23, February 27, and March 27. The Round Robins start with warm-ups at 8:30 AM, and actual playing starts at 9:00 AM. These Round Robins are a lot of fun, so be sure to sign up to play so you don’t miss out on all the action. Generally, the sign-up sheet is posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board around the first of the month.
Round Robin Lunch
There is a lunch planned after each of the Round Robins. That lunch information will be posted on the Round Robin Sign-up sheet that is posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board.

League Tennis for the 2026-27 Season:
--Women's League: There will probably be two Women's Teams for the 2026-27 season. Terry Melick will stay on as one of the team Captains for the 2026-27 season; Rhonda Smith will continue to be her Co-Captain. When a decision has been made on the second team in the fall of 2026, more information will be provided.
--Men's League: There will be one White Team and one Blue Team for the 2026-27 season. Ed Sandre is the White Team Captain. Andy Hardy is the Blue Team Captain.
League matches are played every week, with some matches at home while other matches are played at neighboring communities. The teams’ schedules are posted on the Tennis Bulletin Board.
--The Women's Team plays on Thursday mornings. When playing at home, the matches start at 9:30 AM. The away matches vary in starting time.
--The Men’s White Team plays on Tuesdays at 1:30 PM.
--The Men’s Blue Team plays on Thursdays at 1:30 PM.
The men sometimes start their matches early, so you may want to be at the courts by 1:00 PM if you don’t want to miss the start of the match.
Being a Spectator
If you want to see some great tennis action, you should come out to the courts when the league matches are being played – either here in Tara Woods or at our neighboring communities. Spectators are always welcome and very much appreciated, so come out to the courts and cheer on your Tara Woods teams.
Court Time Scheduling
The "Open Tennis", the Team Practices, and the Team Matches that are played every week from October thru March take up some of the court time, but there are still plenty of times when the tennis courts are available for your use. There is a Tennis Court Reservation Schedule posted on the bulletin board by the courts for anyone to sign up for court time.
Ball Machine
Tara Woods has a Tennis Ball Machine which is a great tool for anyone wanting to improve their style of play. To have access to the Ball Machine, see any Tennis Association Officer.
Tennis Lessons
Tennis lessons are available for beginners eager to learn the game or for those players who just want to improve their tennis skills. If interested, call Fred Puhlfuerst at 239-731-1552.
